ROC - ButaPub

The adventures of Emily and Sophia continue with lunch at ButaPub today! Once again no Jon so lunch time on my own today, only not on my own because I have a friend!!! YAY!!

LOCATION: 315 GREGORY ST, ROCHESTER, NY 14620

I got to knock another place off my list today with lunch at ButaPub with Sophia. Several people have been telling me this month alone that I need to try this place. We walked in and first thing is that it's literally underground and huge. There's great seating everywhere that makes it super cozy while still being well lit and bright. I ordered the ButaPub ramen while Sophia got the tofu rice bowl. Yummm. The ramen had really great crispy pork shoulder, thin strips of nori, garlic sesame chili oil, miso broth, and of course, the perfectly poached egg that bursts open when you cut into it. Honestly it was a little salty for me, but the ramen noodles and the pork shoulder cut down the saltiness and helped balance it out a little. I love poached eggs in these kinds of dishes and while I'm not the biggest fan of nori, it was a pretty nice addition to the bowl. I'm happy with the decision and to us, it was the perfect amount of food for the price. We decided it was so cool that we're gonna come back on Wednesday to check out the dinner and drinks menu. Keep and eye out for an update!

ROC - Georgie's Cafe

Typically, here at Wegmans I spend my day with my boss, Jon. We do work in the little studio office he has and I follow him almost everywhere because I'm his assistant and that's what Im here for. But Jon had a meeting today at work so he quickly informed me this morning that I would be on my own for lunch. It's honestly kinda sad when either one of is gets pulled away and we lose our lunch buddy....My friends at other jobs were also all busy so no substitute buddy today either. Better luck next time..

But today I tried to make the best of it and knock something off my list! I checked some places out on yelp and figured out that I could go to Georgie's Bakery and Cafe and get a Cuban Sandwich to go and just eat at home or at the office while Jon was gone. Score.

LOCATION: 857 S CLINTON AVE, ROCHESTER, NY 14620

So that is exactly what I did. I went to Georgie's, checked it out, and got a Cuban Sandwich. First off, I get greeted by this little hispanic man in a hairnet. He's super nice and sweet and just makes me smile. I'm gonna say, from the pictures on the wall - he's Georgie. The way he talks to the regulars and other customers there, I can tell he's super friendly. I order my sandwich and we talk a little while I wait but honestly it takes almost no time for them to make it. Hot of the stove. This sandwich was delicious. Maybe a little bit salty but that's okay. The bread on the sandwich was soft and dripping with flavor from the meat and I think mayo spread on it, the meat was packed perfectly, the pickles off set the salty-ness, and there was a good amount of lettuce and onion to give it a refreshing crunch. I got a small sandwich too and honestly it's enough for two meals so I ate half and saved the rest for later. Looking forward to it.

ROC - Roux and City Grill

Apparently I'm not the only one with a to do list for Rochester. Glad I'm not the only crazy one around! But it was talking to my friend Sam and apparently she has a list too. Her's is a little smaller than mine and much more manageable but she's also from Pennsylvania so she has less time here to get through the list while I'm stuck in Rochester for forever apparently.

We went through her list and realized it matched with mine a little. Thus our decision to go to Roux was made! And just for good measure we decided to go to City Grill afterwards for drinks to knock a couple things off of her list.

LOCATION: 688 PARK AVE, ROCHESTER, NY 13607

Roux is on Park Ave here and replaced Ci Bon which was a cute little Italian restaurant that I liked. Apparently the owners decided to mix it up and change from Ci Bon to Roux which specializes in French inspired cuisine. Works for me.

Sam got the arugula salad and french fries while I got the Smoked Basque Style Piperade. Basically it was a lamb sausage, a fried organic egg with garden mint and a baguette on a bed of tomatoes. I ordered breakfast without realizing it. I'm smart.

Caught by the lovely Sam Kimmel midway through photographing my food - only a little embarrassing!

Anyhow! It was a pretty good meal. Nothing too exciting. The bread was great and my meal was a pretty good size. Sam's salad looked a little on the smaller side and she said she was glad she ordered the side of french fries. The service was iffy and our waitress seemed to be having a rough day and was very scatterbrained and charged the wrong meals to our credit cards so I ended up paying for Sam's meal and she paid for mine. Awkward.

Honestly not sure I would go back. It didn't wow me and make me want more.

ON TO CITY GRILL!

LOCATION: 384 EAST AVE, ROCHESTER, NY 14607

We got to City Grill and while I've been once before, Sam had been wanting to go so it was a fun treat. I ordered an alcoholic Black Raspberry Ice Tea while Sam got the City Grill Margarita. It was a pretty solid drink and had a pretty good amount of alcohol in it. While we were there we met the coolest gay man ever, who bought a round of shots (I had to pass because I was driving) and proceeded to show us pictures of his very attractive partner, and his two daughters from his previous marriage. He is also apparently a regular and knew the bartenders because he began to introduce us to the very attractive Sam. That's right - double Sams. It was a a really good time and we had a lot of fun. He was a great person to meet and we both enjoyed the hour we spent drinking with him.

ROC - Wegmans 4 Lyfe

I grew up with Wegmans and they've have a huge impact on my life with putting me through middle and high school as well as giving me my first job out of college. While it may be only a summer gig, it still counts. For the summer I spend every day at Wegmans, and I know I'm at headquarters so technically I'm not AT Wegmans but we make a lot of trips to several of the stores multiple times a week and I spend my days looking at Wegmans employees and Wegmans products. That being said, you would think that on my days off I would take the nice two day break from Wegmans and spend my time elsewhere. Wrong.

Tonight my friend Sophia (hey Sofa! Look! Told you you'd be in my blog!) wanted to go to a movie and we figured we'd grab a bite to eat first. Dinner and a movie, aren't we just the cutest couple ever. Who needs men when I have Mercy friends. Usually around this theater we hit up Five Guys or Collies but this time around I made a proposition. Let's go to Wegmans.

LOCATION: 3195 MONROE AVE, ROCHESTER, NY, 14618

I know. I'm a little ridiculous. But the Wegmans in Pittsford has a nice little restaurant attached to it called the Burger Bar. Being one of the few Wegmans we frequent often to buy products for shoots, I pass by the Burger bar at least a 2 or 3 times a week yet have never gone to eat. So I figured, we wanted dinner, this place is on my list, let's go. And that we did.

I decided on the Lobster roll and upgraded my side to zucchini fries. Sophia got some sort of Turkey Burger and sweet potato fries. Everything was delicious. The lobster tasted so fresh and the pieces was a pretty good sized portion. Neither of us have had zucchini fries before so it was a fun choice for me and we both ended up liking them, a lot. They're cut super thin and covered in a light batter with some sort of creamy aoli. This was a pretty good meal for a reasonable price and we were both stuffed in the end. Props to you Wegmans. You're awesome don't ever change.

Roof Top Excursions

Jay and Chris invited me over for dinner tonight. Wednesdays are usually date night with the two of them so I feel like an honorary member of the apartment, being allowed to intrude on roomie dinner.

It was wonderful. They guys made asparagus with toasted cashews, cinnamon pears, and chicken over couscous with balsamic. Top off the glass of white balance wine and I'm set.

I could get used to this.

On top of the wonderful dinner, we decided to head to the roof to eat. 9PM and the sun was just setting over the downtown Rochester skyline. Too perfect. I'm already excited for future dinner invites. Fingers crossed.
